Saint Olga of Kiev Oval Necklace

Saint Olga of Kiev (c. 890–969) was the wise and strong regent of Kievan Rus’, ruling after the death of her husband, Prince Igor. Though once fierce in justice, she turned to Christ and became the first ruler of Rus’ to accept baptism, preparing the way for the future conversion of her people under her grandson, St. Vladimir.

She reposed in peace in 969, and the Church glorifies her as Equal-to-the-Apostles, honoring her for bringing the light of Orthodoxy to the lands of Rus’. Her feast is kept on July 11.
